Rethinking Packaging for the Mediabox Next Mini
When Ziggo introduced the Mediabox Next Mini, the goal was bigger than just delivering great entertainment. The device itself was already small, energy-efficient, and made with recycled materials, an impressive step toward a greener future. But there was still a challenge: how to deliver the product and accessories in a way that matched these sustainability ambitions, without compromising on customer experience.
The Challenge
Standard packaging wasn’t cutting it. The product plus accessories simply didn’t fit through a mailbox, which meant more packaging, higher shipping emissions, and less convenience for customers. On top of that, the packaging had to fit into Ziggo’s modular system, keep SKUs to a minimum, and ensure intuitive installation for end-users. And of course, functionality had to be tested and proven.
One of the biggest hurdles was the UTP cable. At 40mm, it was too thick to fit within mailbox restrictions of 28mm. Without a rethink, the entire concept would fall apart.

The Solution
At Paxpring, we took on the challenge with a design-first, customer-focused approach. Together with Ziggo and CommScope, we:

-
Developed a mailbox-ready packaging concept (max 380x265x32mm) that reduces material use and eliminates single-use plastics.
-
Advised on switching to flat UTP cables, enabling the accessory set to meet strict height limits while still being functional.
-
Designed packaging that supports intuitive installation and keeps the unboxing experience smooth and enjoyable.
-
Kept the design aligned with Ziggo’s modular packaging system, avoiding unnecessary new SKUs.
-
Rigorously validated the solution through ISTA 3A transport simulation testing to ensure durability and performance.
The Impact
The result is packaging that’s as smart as the product inside:
-
Mailbox-friendly delivery, no need for customers to be home.
-
A seamless, frustration-free installation experience.
-
Significant reductions in packaging volume, emissions, and costs.
-
A smaller footprint for the planet without sacrificing quality or usability.

For us at Paxpring, this project is proof of what’s possible when design, functionality, and sustainability come together. It’s not just about fitting into a smaller box—it’s about rethinking the whole system to create real impact.
